Heath Common and The Thin Man

Heath Common is a songwriter and performer living in Scarborough, UK. He began his musical career playing in New York City with Robert Lockwood and Johnny Shines – the stepson and close friend, respectively, of the legendary blues musician, Robert Johnson. Following this, Heath Common worked with – and was greatly influenced by – many major figures in the New York ‘Art Rock’ scene of the 1980s and early 1990s.
Subsequently, Heath Common formed a duo with the Thin Man before both men went on to work with a diverse number of musicians ranging from the guitarist John Fahey to the British indie act, The Rhythm Sisters. Heath Common continues to work closely with many of the surviving figures from the Beat Movement and he is a published poet.
The Thin Man is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer, artist and writer currently living in Sheffield, UK. He formed a long-standing songwriting and performing partnership with Heath Common some years ago when both men were writing under auspices of the legendary music publisher, Charlie Gillett (mentor to Dire Straits, Elvis Costello & Ian Drury amongst many others). Subsequently, The Thin Man performed and recorded with many different people ranging from Fat Boy Slim to the Yorkshire guitar-genius, Bill Nelson.

International Rescue

International Rescue

International Rescue was originally made up of 50% Fax (Steve and Dave), 25% The Vets (Spec) and 25% best mate (Chaz). Initially formed in 1980 from the residue of the Bridlington/Hornsea Punk Rock scene, the band went on to become 'the' live act to see in and around East Yorkshire. Spreading their wings following management and recording deals IR as they became known, toured extensively building up a loyal following around the UK.

Things were looking up - the elusive deal, TV appearances and a bulging gig diary would surely help them on the way to wherever it is bands aspire to reach. The Polydor deal crumbled, so undeterred the band released two singles on their own Cowboy City label. You Need Shoes and Life In An Elevator were both crowd faves when IR played live but yet again the fickle finger of fate picked at the scab of fame. Steve was invited to play with Orange Juice and subsequently Edwyn Collins and left the band on the day Life In An Elevator was released. The band carried on in his absence, changing musical direction, haircuts and clothing. The compass fell out of the tour van and IR lost their way.

In 2010, after much deliberation, the original members met again and decide to reform. All was going swimmingly until Spec opened his diary and realised his commitments were mounting up. He left to follow his dreams. To the 'rescue' came a younger, hungrier, slimmer drummer called Joel Cash. His first gig with International Rescue was only eight weeks away but Cash was truly on the money and played his part in a triumphant show to almost 500 people in the grandeur of the Spa Theatre.

July 2011 and things are on the move again. A fruitful session at Fairview Studios with friend and sound guru John Spence produces the edgy, powerful 'Sonic Lightning' EP. Two new songs - Armadillo and All I Want sit alongside old crowd favourite The Shining and despite there being 30 years between the compositions there is a clear consistency and vibrancy in the band's new direction. Sonic Lightning will shortly be available on iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon.

They like Chuck Ragan, American Football (the band, not the unintentionally hilarious sport), Jawbreaker, Mineral, basically stuff with nice guitars and hairy voices, and with varying degrees of bearing on how we actually sound from one song to the next...
