The construction of Bridlington Town's new clubhouse begins today.

The £300,000 project will see a two-storey modular building installed with an upgraded bar and facilities.

Some of the money has come from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, which is financed by the Premier League.

Peter Smurthwaite, Chairman of Bridlington Town, said:

"We can get more usage out of the club other than just Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.

The facility is about 30 percent bigger, everything's modern in sizing, we can have small functions, we can have larger functions, we can let it out to businesses who want to hold presentations during the day, during the week.

It really is going to help the economy of the club and also the community of Bridlington; because if you think about it, it'll be quite a lot of places that may not even open up after this lockdown.

So there could be a shortage of people to hold functions and meetings and we're hoping to pick up on that.

It's just a really good forward step for the club."
