While Whitby Town turned their attention to FA Cup matters, further down the coast, Scarborough Athletic and Bridlington Town made league progress.

Boro now have back-to-back wins after a 2-1 success at Lancashire side Bamber Bridge. Ryan Watson's last-gasp goal took John Deacey's men to victory, after Michael Coulson had converted an early penalty. Brig responded with a spot kick of their own but despite the Seadogs missing another penalty, Watson's strike saw them take the three points. The victory means Boro are up to 13th, just four points behind 4th-place Warrington in a congested BetVictor NPL Premier Division.

The win follows on neatly from a midweek 2-0 success over Hyde, Athletic's first home league win of the campaign:

Meanwhile, Bridlington Town are up to sixth in the Northern Counties East League, after a 1-0 victory at the Hudgell Solicitors Stadium. Joe McFadyen scored the crucial goal which keeps Brett Agnew's side within eight points of leaders Staveley Miners Welfare, with two games in hand.

In rugby, Scarborough lost 24-21 to York, at Silver Royd, while Bridlington beat Bradford Salem 49-19.
