Mixed FA Cup Fortunes For Blues & Boro But Brid Win Again

Published at 9:28am 22nd September 2019. (Updated at 9:57am 22nd September 2019)

Scarborough Athletic's FA Cup dream is over after a 5-2 defeat at higher-ranked Vanarama National North side Southport, on Saturday.

James Walshaw had put Boro ahead after firing across the keeper, early on. However, the west coast hosts soon hit back and were 5-1 up before Michael Coulson struck a late consolation, from the penalty spot.

Whitby Town, meanwhile, are through to the penultimate qualifying round following their 1-0 win at 1874 Northwich- from the North West Counties League. Town have a two-division advantage over their Cheshire opponents, but they were capable opponents with Shane Bland forced into a smart save before Brad Fewster put the Blues ahead, on 18 minutes. They just about held on to make Monday's draw and take their competition earnings, so far, over the £10,000 mark.

Bridlington Town stay top of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division thanks to a 3-0 home victory over Handsworth.  Goals from Billy Logan, Joe McFadyen and Chris Adams mean Brid remain at the summit. The top three are all eligible fopr promotion to the BetVictor NPL First Division.

In rugby, Scarborough beat Percy Park 48-31 but Bridlington lost 27-24 at West Leeds.
