Blues and Brid top as Boro suffer late nightmare

Published at 9:19am 15th September 2019.

The coast has two table-toppers after Saturday's football action, though Scarborough Athletic were again frustrated despite a great start.

John Deacey's men led hosts Nantwich Town 2-0, in the Bet Victor NPL Premier, after strikes from Luke Lofts and James Walshaw, however a nightmare spell in the final 15 minutes saw the Cheshire side grab a 3-2 victory.

Here's how that dramatic turnaround sounded on Yorkshire Coast Radio Extra, with Ant Taylor.

Whitby Town continued their recent run of wins to go top of the division. Substitute Dale Hopson put the Blues ahead within seconds of his introduction, midway through the second half. The Town skipper then saw a penalty saved, minutes later, only for the league's leading goalscorer, Brad Fewster, to bury the rebound and seal a 2-0 victory.

Hopson spoke to the club's Media and Communications Manager, Paul Connolly, after the game:

Bridlington Town are also top of their division, the Toolstation Northern Counties East League as they chase promotion to the NPL.

Brett Agnew's side secured a 3-0 victory over Eccleshill United, at the Hudgell Solicitors Stadium. Joe McFadyen's free-kick broke the deadlock, with Josh Greening and Chris Adams completing the scoring.
