Scarborough Athletic and Whitby Town had to settle for battling draws as the Bet Victor Northern Premier League kicked off on Saturday.

Boro were hosting highly-rated Buxton, at the Flamingo Land Stadium, with their new grandstand open for the first time.

However, it wasn't part of the script to fall behind nine minutes from time. Jack Johnson was the hero, though, as he popped up with an 89th-minute equaliser.

Whitby also conceded first, when Witton Albion visited the Towbar Express Stadium at the Turnbull Ground.

A 22nd-minute penalty separated the sides until Matty Tymon's outrageous lob, early in the second half.

In the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier, Bridlington Town suffered their first defeat of the new season.

Brett Agnew's men went down 1-0 at South Yorkshire side Penistone Church.
