Rugby D-Day Sees Bridlington Relegated

Published at 10:07am 14th April 2019. (Updated at 10:10am 14th April 2019)

Bridlington Rugby Club were relegated despite victory over Pocklington, yesterday.

Brid knew they had to beat their visitors by four tries and hope rivals Cleckheaton lose, however neither happened. While Bridlington edged to a 26-24 last day win, Cleckheaton were also victorious against Malton and Norton, sending Brid down.

Scarborough also won- at home to Bradford & Bingley 39-26- but will still have to travel to Blackburn in the promotion play-offs. The North West outfit thumped Isle of Man side Douglas 85-0 to book a home tie with Scarborough on Saturday 27th April. Hopes had been high when Scarborough raced into a 19-0 lead but they had to fight off a late Bradford backlash, in front of a bumper four-figure Silver Royd crowd.
