Mixed Football Fortunes After Late Drama

Published at 9:22am 31st March 2019. (Updated at 10:51am 31st March 2019)

There were mixed results for our major Yorkshire Coast football sides on Saturday.

Scarborough Athletic were once again rocked by a late goal and are now six points outside the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division play-offs after visitors Lancaster City earned a draw at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

Jamie Walshaw had fired the Seadogs ahead just before half-time only for a late penalty to hit their lingering play-off ambitions. Bailey Gooda was adjudged to have handled in the Boro box and Paul Dawson slotted in the resulting spot-kick, three minutes from time.

Here's how Paddy saw it on Yorkshire Coast Radio Extra:

Whitby Town enjoyed a late winner as Bradley Fewster's 94th minute strike earned a 1-0 win at Mickleover Sports. It was the ex-Middlesbrough marksman's fifth goal in four games as the Seasiders made it three wins in four.

Paul Connolly and Liam Ryder called this one for Yorkshire Coast Radio Extra:

In the Toolstation Northern Counties East, Bridlington Town drop to fifth after a 1-0 defeat at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Richard Collier's first-half free-kick was enough to see the Pontefract side leapfrog their visitors into third spot. Brid are now seven points adrift of second-placed Penistone Church, with a game in hand.
