Whitby Town's top scorer Junior Mondal has signed for League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

He'll join for an undisclosed fee on January 1, but as part of the deal, Mondal will not play for Whitby again.

Since joining in November 2017, Mondal has made 48 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals.

He is currently the club’s top goalscorer for 2018/19 season, after netting eight goals in 23 outings.

Mondal said:

“I’m delighted to be getting back to the Football League, it’s something I’ve worked hard to achieve.

I’ve learned a lot in my time at Whitby Town, and they’ve been great in helping me move from under-23s football into the men’s game.

Making the move to Whitby has been good for me as it’s taught me a lot. It’s taught me more about the physicality of the game, and given me a good platform to develop my game.

I’d like to thank everyone at the club for their support over my year here, everyone has been excellent with me.

I’d like to thank Chris Hardy and Lee Bullock too for teaching me everything that they have. I really appreciate the input and experience they’ve given me.”

Boss Chris Hardy added:

“I’m delighted that Junior has got what he has been working so hard towards.

It’s always been his focus to get back into the professional game and I knew that Whitby would give him the perfect platform to do so, and in turn that we would benefit from having a player of his quality.

This season has seen Junior play as an out and out number nine, which I believe showcases his attributes and at times makes him unplayable with his pace & eye for goal.

These traits are exactly what professional clubs are looking for and I suppose this is why he’s had so much attention.

All of us at Whitby Town wish Junior every success at his new club.”
