AUDIO: Steve Kittrick On Trafford Win

Scarborough Athletic F C 2017

Published at 8:28am 4th February 2018.

All our local football teams had matches yesterday.

In the Evo-Stik North, Scarborough Athletic beat Trafford 2-1 at Shawe View.

That was Boro's 7th successive victory to keep them second place in the table.

Scarborough Athletic manager Steve Kittrick spoke to Ant Taylor after the win:

James Walshaw gave the visitors a half-time lead with a towering header on 41 minutes from a Coulson corner as he blasted it into the back of the net.

It got even better in the early stages of the second half as Walshaw fizzed a dangerous ball into the six yard box that Trafford defender Lee Neville could only turn into his own goal.

The home side found a second wind and started to throw everything at Boro, with the dangerous Aaron Burns hitting the post when clean through on goal.

Soon after the deficit was halved when Declan Rydings flicked in at the near post, before Steve Kittrick's side found themselves down to ten men when Jimmy Beadle was shown a straight red card with 15 minutes to go.

It was nervy in the closing stages as the home side pushed for an equaliser but Boro held out for an important win.

Meanwhile in the Evo-Stik Premier League, Whitby Town beat Halesowen Town 5-0

Bridlington Town lost 2-1 to Bottesford Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League

In rugby - Scarborough won against Old Brodleians 36 to 27.

And Bridlington beat West Hartlepool 34 to 0.
