There were wins for two of our local football teams last night.

In the Evo-Stik Premier, Whitby Town beat Ashton United in dramatic circumstances when they were awarded a 94th minute penalty.

After going behind after just three minutes, Whitby leveled when Kieran Weledji turned in Danny McWilliams' free-kick ten minutes before half-time.

Matty Tymon's header  turned it around for the Blues in the second half to make it 2-1 with 20 minutes to play.

With three minutes left, Ashton thought they'd rescued a point when the ball deflected past Whitby stopper Shane Bland.

But Whitby got a penalty in injury time when David Carson was pushed in the box. Carson stepped up to take the spot kick himself and slotted home to secure all three points.

Meanwhile Scarborough Athletic smashed Sheffield FC 5-0 in the Integro league Cup. Striker Emile Sinclair stole the show and the match ball by claiming a hat-trick for the Seadogs.

Dan Stimpson gave Boro the lead after 18 minutes when he nodded in Leon Osbourne's flick on.

Sinclair grabbed his first when he chipped over Sheffield 'keeper Jamie Ingham and then bagged his second in the second half when he drilled one in the corner.

Substitute Billy Logan made it 4-0 when he finished from a narrow angle and Sinclair rounded off his hat-trick when he converted from the penalty spot.

Scarborough also found out their opponents for the next round of the Emirates FA Cup. They'll now face Sunderland RCA in the Second Qualifying Round, after they beat Liversedge 4-0 last night in a replay.

The tie will be played at the Flamingo Land Stadium on the weekend of the 16 September.
