New Football Season Kicks-Off On Yorkshire Coast

SAFC New Kit

Published at 10:57am 11th August 2017.

The football season is finally here for our teams on the Yorkshire Coast.

After a ten year exile, Scarborough Athletic will finally play a league game back in the town, as they take on Hyde United in the Evo-Stik Division One North at their new Flamingo Land Stadium.

Boro chairman Trevor Bull said:

"It's really interesting the way it's worked out because we feel that having a 3G pitch could possibly be to our advantage because not many teams play on them.

Unfortunately the first team we play, Hyde, have a 3G pitch! They're the only other team apart from us in the league that has one.

What we've been trying to do is let people sample that matchday experience in pre-season and hopefully get back int he habit of coming to live sport on a Saturday afternoon.

Because for ten years, the majority of people in Scarborough have learnt to do something else on a Saturday.

It's going to take a lot for us to win them back."

Elsewhere Whitby Town begin their Evo-Stik Premier League campaign away at Barwell.

Curtis Woodhouse's Bridlington Town kick off their new Northern Counties League season with a trip to Hall Road Rangers.
