Headingley Redevelopment Update

Yorkshire County Cricket Club is hopeful that Headingley can host the Cricket World Cup in 2019.

The Cricket Club and Rugby League side Leeds Rhinos have requested that Leeds City Council the planning application for the Headingley Carnegie Stadium redevelopment at the earliest opportunity.

The most likely earliest opportunity will be at a planning committee on 12 January 2017. Both the clubs are hoping for a positive outcome which would allow the completion of stadium works in time for the World Cup in 2019 and the Rugby League World Cup in 2021.

Last month we told you that the plans for the redevelopment of the stadium which could lead to the stadium losing its International cricket fixtures for four years between 2020 and 2024.

Yorkshire CCC Chief Executive Mark Arthur said:

"It is essential that a solution is found in order to deliver International Cricket to Leeds beyond 2019, and we are working tirelessly with Leeds City Council and Leeds Rhinos to that end."
