Scarborough Police Hunt Alleged Flasher

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 1:59pm 15th March 2012.

Scarborough police have released an image of a man who allegedly exposed himself to a local woman.

The victim, aged 24, was followed for approximately a mile by the man before he indecently exposed himself as she reached her car on St James Road at around 2.30pm on Thursday 2 February 2012.

The man didn’t speak to her and when she got into her car he ran off.

At the time of the offence the man, who is described as Asian and aged in his 30s, was wearing light-coloured tracksuit bottoms, a light-coloured raincoat and trainers.

A few days after the incident the victim saw the man again on Westborough and managed to take a picture of him on her mobile phone.

Scarborough indecent exposure

Enquiries have been ongoing to trace the man.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who recognises the man from the image or can help to identify him to get in touch.

PC Ken Gunn, of Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “There is no place for this sort of behaviour in our society and I am appealing to anyone who can help us locate the suspect to contact the police or Crimestoppers.

“Thanks to the quick thinking of the victim we have an image of the suspect which I hope will prompt people to recognise him and come forward.

“I would also urge anyone who witnessed the incident itself or has been approached in similar circumstances to get in contact with information.”

Anyone who can help the investigation is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Ken Gunn or Scarborough police.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 1212002253.
