People in North Yorkshire Encouraged to Build Grassroots Sport

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 9:58am 27th February 2012.

This month Yorkshire Coast College in Scarborough will host one of many Sport Maker workshops taking place across North Yorkshire over the next two years.

This exciting Sport Makers programme aims to bring the magic of the Olympic and Paralympic Games within local communities to life using the inspirational pull of London 2012 to recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers nationally aged 16 and over to make sport happen across the country.

As part of the programme  volunteers will have a positive and inspiring  introduction to the world of volunteering and be supported to identify the real things they could do to help get everyone more active and achieving their potential in sport.

The fantastic thing is individuals don’t have to super fit or knowledgeable about sport to become a Sport maker. It’s up to the individual whether they choose to take an active sporting role or a more administrative one.

If you are interested in volunteering in sport and would like to gain further information about the Sport Makers programme please register your interest at www.sportmakers.co.uk and book onto one of the workshops. Alternatively contact Lucy Smith lucy.smith@harrogate.gov.uk.

Every individual that attends one of the workshops will each receive an official Adidas top and bag.
