Published by Matthew Pells at 7:58am 1st August 2020.

A boy was rescued from the Sea at Scarborough South Bay on Friday after spending an hour in the water.

Eye witnesses report that the boy was seen being dragged under the water by a rip tide before his father attempted to go to his aid. The man was unable to reach the boy and after losing sight of him, then raised the alarm, leaving his wife on the beach to watch for their son.

Scarborough Coastguard Rescue Team, Coastguard Helicopter 912, Scarborough RNLI Lifeboat and Scarborough Police all responded to the alert.

HM Coastguard, RNLI and Police began to search the area where the boy was last seen with Humber Coastguard producing search plans to systematic search the water.

At the start of the search the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat spotted the child and pulled him from the water.

The boy had been in the water for nearly an hour. Paramedics checked him over and then he was able to return to his parents.

Rescuers say the boy helped save his life by following the advice ‘float to live’.
