Filey MP On Lockdown Easing Being Postponed

Published by Karen Liu at 1:58pm 31st July 2020.

The MP for Filey has given his reaction to the easing of lockdown in England being postponed.

Boris Johnson announced the news earlier after Coronavirus cases began to rise.

The reopening of bowling alleys and casinos, which had been due to happen tomorrow, has been delayed for at least two weeks.

Small wedding receptions cannot happen either.

Kevin Hollinrake said:

"I'm sorry for the businesses and organisations suffering from that change in policy.

It's about taking a responsible approach, not wanting a second wave, and most people who are in business, the thing they fear the most is extending the national lockdown.

We can't face that; the economy just can't deal with it. So we've got to be very cautious and where there's any evidence, any signs that we shouldn't do something, then we shouldn't do it.

I think a sensible delay of the re-opening of those kind of venues is the right thing to do."
