Dangers Of Inflatables On Yorkshire Coast

Filey RNLI is making people aware about the dangers of using inflatables.

It is after the crew attended a number of call-outs in recent weeks.

Coxswain Neil Cammish said:

"They don't seem to realise the dangers of the way the wind directions are.

At high water, especially at Filey, if the wind's off the land, they don't feel it but you only have to 300-400 metres out and you start getting the breeze, and then next thing you know you're getting blown out the bay at maybe 4-5 knots of wind.

If you're going to use a dinghy, just be safe. Just try and keep where lifeguards can keep an eye on you; and also keep reasonably close to the shore so you aren't going to get out of your depth in case you have to jump out."
