Key Scarborough Athletic Players Leave For NPL Rivals

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 12:08pm 15th July 2020. (Updated at 12:14pm 15th July 2020)

Scarborough Athletic fans are coming to terms with the news that two of their best players are leaving the club.

Last night, an eagle-eyed fan spotted that striker James Walshaw had signed for Buxton, via the Northern Premier League's official website.

The club later confirmed the news with Manager Darren Kelly saying:

"I got a message from Wally this afternoon and he told me that he was leaving for personal reasons".

Walshaw spent two and a half years with Boro, leading them to promotion to the NPL and being not only the clubs leading scorer but the league's as well.

More bad news came for Scarborough fans this morning as the club announced Keeper Tommy Taylor is also heading to Buxton. Boss Darren Kelly says he tried to keep the fans favourite at the club:

"I had a telephone conversation with Tommy and he told me that he had decided to join Buxton. I had driven to Leeds to meet him on Friday and discuss things because he is a player that has been brilliant since I took over as manager. I'm gutted to see him go. Tommy has made his decision on his future now, so we have to move on."

Taylor has recently had a trial with a Scottish Premiership side but when nothing came of it, fans of the Seadogs hoped he'd turn out for the club next season, despite not signing a new deal.
