The Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council has thanked the public for being careful and cautious at the weekend.

It is as some businesses like bars, restaurants and pubs welcomed back customers on Saturday.

Richard Burton said:

"I think there was a good enough number of people that came over to the coast at he weekend.

I think the weather wasn't so great so that might have had an impact on the number of visitors.

We are in the summer season now. Businesses need to carefully open up and take advantage f the summer period, which is a key element for the East Riding.

The tourism sector alone supports 14,000 jobs and it's worth around £600 million. But I think overall at the weekend, I think it went well."
