Yorkshire Coast D-BID 'Needs To Be More Local' Says MP

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 8th July 2020.

Scarborough and Whitby's MP says the Yorkshire Coast D-BID area needs to be more local.

Robert Goodwill has expressed his thoughts on Coronavirus affecting the Yorkshire Coast D-BID area.

He said:

"Now in the light of the pandemic, I think we probably need to think again and maybe this is something we need to re-visit in a few years time.

But just at the moment, the businesses that were being asked to pay a supplementary rate are looking at how they can survive in the future, rather than promoting the type of schemes this type of BID would have had.

Many businesses that are being asked to pay a supplementary rate are not trading, some of them won't be trading for a very long time, some of the theatres and other outlets.

So I hope they'll go back to the drawing board and try and look at our tourism promotion strategy on the coast.

First at all, it needs to be more local, I think the BID was for quite a large area of the coast."

Maybe Goodwill should look at the scheme and how it was voted in.

Why did Scarborough need a scheme that business owners didn't want and couldn't afford.

There was already a scheme in place that has already been given thousands and thousands of council money and is still asking for more.

Welcome to Yorkshire just in case you are wondering.
