Yorkshire Coast Residents Urged To Shop Local

Published by Karen Liu at 7:01am 7th July 2020.

The MP for Scarborough and Whitby is encouraging residents to shop local.

It is as many businesses re-opened over the weekend as part of the easing of lockdown.

Robert Goodwill said:

"I think particularly we have a challenge on the high street with shops under great pressure and I hope that we shake off that habit of shopping online and actually go out onto the high street.

I think as people get used to social distancing, they'll get out into the high street and start using our shops and spending that money.

A lot of people, of course, have had difficult financial times but others, they've seen money bouncing up in their bank accounts as they haven't been able to go on holiday in the Easter or go out to restaurants.

So I'm hoping that money that people might have in their bank accounts can be put into good effect by buying stuff locally and getting out to our pubs and restaurants."

There speaks someone who had an extra £10k put in his account. The rest of us may not have been able to go out to spend but prices are higher online and the bills still go up, more electricity used because we are at home, more heating in the colder weather, for a lot of people with children i should imagine more food consumed! I do not seem to have seen an increase in my savings. Maybe he should go to his local shops and see how the prices have gone up and of course other services will be having to put up their prices to cover the additional covid related costs to get their businesses open.
