North Yorkshire Police To Be Out 'In Force' This Weekend

Published by Karen Liu at 7:02am 4th July 2020.

People on the Yorkshire Coast are being urged to drink and act responsibly.

It comes from North Yorkshire Police as many bars, pubs and restaurants welcome back customers.

Today is being dubbed 'Super Saturday' and Lisa Winward, Chief Constable of the force, said:

"My urge would be is please act responsibly. There are people who live in these places, they too want to have the freedom of enjoyment of going out and not being at risk from their health.

So I think the national message has been yes, please go out and enjoy the fact that there is a little bit more liberty that you can enjoy pubs and restaurants and support the local economy, but do so sensibly.

The police will be out in force this weekend. We will look at using legislation to do with dispersal, we will look at alcohol-related legislation, including the Covid legislation, to ensure people are acting responsibly, and they don't spoil the environment for those who do want to go out and peacefully enjoy a little bit more of the relaxation of the regulations."
