Yorkshire Coast Pubs To Open With Safety Measures

Yorkshire Coast Pubs To Open With Safety Measures

Published by Karen Liu at 12:24pm 3rd July 2020.

Tomorrow is a big day for the Yorkshire Coast as many businesses re-open.

Safety measures to ensure social distancing have to be put in place though.

It will involve people texting before they enter places like a bar or a restaurant to help with the Government's track and trace programme.

One pub that is re-opening is The Courtyard in Scarborough.

Its owner, Tony Snow, said:

"Well obviously it's going to be different to what it was pre-pandemic but you know, we're still going to try and make it enjoyable for people.

But obviously when you walk in, you're going to have your hand sanitising, you're going to have your separations and luckily at The Courtyard, we do have these separate areas so it's easy to isolate people into these separate bubbles.

We're asking that before you enter the pub, you text the bar your name, and that's per group, so we just have something to fall back on for the Government just in case something should happen, so they can trace each group.

Obviously this Saturday is going to be a lot unlike any other Saturday in the future, because not many venues in Scarborough are open and the majority are just taking bookings.

So a person expecting to come out on Saturday night and go around the pubs, they're going to fall short I'm afraid because that's not going to happen.

It's going to be a slow build-up to all the pubs opening up."

Tony has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning:
