Good That Tourism Businesses Can Re-Open Says Filey MP

The MP for Filey says it is good that tourism businesses can re-open this weekend.

Kevin Hollinrake says he understands concerns about lockdown measures being eased as hospitality, leisure and tourism firms can welcome back customers from tomorrow.

He says the two metre rule being dropped is the major worry for many.

Kevin said:

"Pleased to say for those pubs and restaurants that we are seeing those facilities being allowed back open once again; because otherwise they're simply going to go bust and that will mean those businesses are lost and many, many jobs are lost.

So it's striking a balance and I think it's the right kind of balance. Most other countries have done this successfully so there's no reason why we can't.

I think it's right to be worried. I think it's right to be worried about what happens if we start to ease the lockdown; that means vigilance, it doesn't mean we continue to keep all those places closed, as long as we're vigilant, as long as put other measures in place.

The two metre relaxation down to one metre is certainly the biggest area of concern and I think we just need to be very, very careful when we do that."

Kevin has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke:
