Scarborough Micropub Wants to Extend Hours

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Carl Gavaghan at 12:06pm 1st July 2020.

A Scarborough micropub is looking to extend its opening hours.

The Stumble Inn, on Westborough also wants to remove a condition placed on its original premises licence, which prohibits live music from being played.

Jada Hospitality Ltd has lodged the application with Scarborough Council.

Under the plans, the opening hours of the mircopub would be 10am until 00.30am seven days a week. Currently, the pub can only open from noon until 11pm on Monday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The Stumble Inn, which specialises in real ales and ciders, closes its doors at 10.30pm on Sundays.

Under the application, live music would be allowed until 11pm. The playing of recorded music has also been requested, until midnight.

The owners of the popular watering hole announced on its Facebook page this week that the small bar would not be opening, when the lockdown restrictions are lifted on Saturday.

In a message to its followers it said:

“After due consideration, we will not be opening on July 4.

At this juncture, we feel opening the Stumble Inn under the current guidelines and health concerns would detract from the very essence of the Stumble Inn and that of the ‘Stumblers’ (regular or visitor).

This has not been an easy decision, we know you are missing our fine establishment and what it stands for.

But health concerns and regulations caused us to err on the side of caution until the situation improves. I hope you understand our decision at this time.”

The owners added that they were considering offering a takeaway real ale and cider service, while it remains closed.

The new licence application is out to consultation until July 27.

I think that the council should approve this application, as it is getting harder and harder to run a successful business these days. I say help all businesses at this very difficult times.
