Scarborough Recording Studio Plans Withdrawn

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Carl Gavaghan at 4:34pm 30th June 2020.

Plans to turn the ground floor of Scarborough house into a recording studio, which sparked a war of words between supporters and objectors, have been withdrawn.

More than 40 letters of support and 30 letters of objection were lodged with Scarborough Council, in response to the planning application by Christopher and Kristina Jones.

The pair wanted to use one floor of their three-storey home in South Avenue, Scalby, for the studio, which they said would operate between 8am and 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

However, Scarborough Council has now confirmed that the plans have been withdrawn, at the request of the applicants.

The Jones' said they have been operating the Beck View studio since December and had installed a number of soundproofing measures.

They were supported in the application by a number of local musicians, who backed the creation of a facility in the area.

However, neighbours of the property were not happy with the plans, claiming they were already being disturbed by noise and asked the council to refuse the plans.

Newby and Scalby Parish Council also said more information was needed about the potential for noise from the premises.
