Social Distancing Warning From Filey MP

Social Distancing Warning From Filey MP

Published by Jon Burke at 6:31am 30th June 2020.

Filey's MP says it's up to people on the Yorkshire coast to be sensible about social distancing.

Kevin Hollinrake's been reacting to beaches in places including Bournemouth being packed last week.

It's ahead of visitor accommodation preparing to re-open this weekend.

Kevin says we need to stick to the rules and if we don't, it could lead to a second-spike in the coronavirus infection and another lockdown.

He says it's not too early to early to lift restrictions, as pubs, bars and restaurants also get ready to open their doors again.

Kevin said:

"Across the whole of North Yorkshire last week, there have been 9 cases [of coronavirus]. That's amongst a population in York and North Yorkshire of 800,000 people, but nevertheless we've got to remain vigilant and we've got to do the right things and we've got to keep in mind that if we start to spread this virus to each other, cases will spike quickly and then we'll have to step back from the freedoms we're starting to experience again."
