Bridlington RNLI Called To Windsurfer In Difficulty

Published by Karen Liu at 7:22am 29th June 2020.

Bridlington RNLI have been called out to help a windsurfer in difficulty.

The inshore lifeboat crew were paged by the Coastguard at 11:27am on Sunday 28th June following reports of a windsurfer struggling to get back on his board.

The volunteer crew made their way to the reported location, facing force-five gusting winds. The RNLI says the strong winds forced ILB helm Jamie McHale to take action to avoid injury to the crew.

The charity says shortly afterwards, it appeared that the windsurfer had made it to shore safely and was being looked after by UK Coastguard staff on the beach. The RNLI volunteers were then stood down and made it back to the lifeboat station safely.

The RNLI are increasing their roll-out of lifeguards at beaches across the country but always ask the public to remain vigilant when visiting the coast. If you see someone in difficulty in the water call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
