East Riding of Yorkshire Council says getting the tourism industry back up and running is vital for the economy.

That is from its Leader, Richard Burton, who has been reacting to the news that businesses can re-open from July 4th.

He said:

"It's a very big moment for Bridlington and the Yorkshire Coast.

It's now an opportunity for the wider hospitality sector to gradually open up.

Tourism is such an important part of our economy. It's worth £550m to East Riding and supports 14,000 jobs.

So it's a vital part of the economy that we do need to get up and running.

You can't get away from the fact that the summer season is a key element and we need that season to happen really, to ensure that tourism businesses, that supports many jobs, can survive the winter months."
