'We Have to Live With Coronavirus' Says North Yorkshire Health Director

Published by Jon Burke at 7:01am 22nd June 2020.

North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health says we're going to have to live alongside COVID-19, until we have a vaccine.

Dr Lincoln Sargeant says we will have to adapt to living with the virus in our communities, possibly for the next 18 months.

He says says monitoring how the virus spreads during the winter will be key to assessing how long we might have to view the virus as a threat to public health.

Dr Sargeant said:

"If we do not get a vaccine [for coronavirus] then we will have to do this cautiously - look for infections and localised outbreaks and deal with them aggressively. That will be business as usual, I think, for at least the next 12 to 18 months."
