Calls To Not Get Carried Away As Shops Open On Yorkshire Coast

There is a call from North Yorkshire's Public Health Director not to get carried away as lockdown measures continue to ease.

Doctor Lincoln Sargeant says if we do, it could lead to a rise in the rate of new coronavirus cases.

Shops are re-opening in England from today, prompting safety concerns from many people.

Doctor Sargeant said:

"If we overdo it in terms of moving too quickly, then we risk a situation where if we lose control of cases, we have to close parts of the economy again to regain control.

We're in this transition period where I think we need to be quite careful maybe over the next month or six weeks.

All the measures around hand washing, social distancing and limiting the number of contacts to that which is absolutely necessary still apply.

Those remain the corner stones of how we control this infection, keep the numbers low and we turn to a resemblance of normality sooner rather than later."
