Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team say they found an item of ordnance.

A team member was practicing 'social distanced' navigation skills at Flyingdales Moor on Monday (8th June).

They discovered what was believed to an item of ordnance previously used in the Second World War as a gunnery range.

The Team said:

"A photograph was sent to North Yorkshire Police who in turn called out a detachment from 11 Ordnance Disposal and Search Regiment, Catterick to attend.

We escorted two police officers to the scene who remained with the relic until the EOD team arrived and arranged safe disposal.
