Filey MP Speaks On School Situation

Filey's MP has been reacting to the news about schools.

Kevin Hollinrake says it was an ambitious plan to get kids back this month, but he also reckons it is right to change it if it cannot be done.

He said:

"We just need to look at this situation very carefully, make sure we study the evidence and make decisions based upon the evidence.

Lots of people are bound to be critical and a lot of mistakes have been made over the last few weeks.

But I think understandably this is a unprecedented situation. Ministers have been involved in this and officials have been working 24/7 to get this right.

I've got kids at home studying and we all know, as parents, that it's much more difficult to get our children studying as we need them to do when they're at home.

I think that's particularly the case with lots of people who perhaps don't have much time to spend with their kids as we do.

I can work from home and my wife is at home, so that's easier to make sure the kids are doing what they should be doing in terms of studying."

Kevin has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke:
