Community Kitchen Scarborough To Start Winding Down

A community group formed by Scarborough chefs to help vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis will wind down its service over the next month.

By the time it ends on 3 July, Community Kitchen Scarborough will have served over 4,000 meals across the town.

This week, the Kitchen will be serving meals on Thursday and Friday only, and then on Fridays only until 3 July. 

Spokesperson Martyn Hyde, from Eat Me Café, says:

“We want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has supported or donated to the Kitchen either financially or emotionally. It’s been a hard, but rewarding, 10 weeks! Thank you each and every one.” 

Since lockdown began, Community Kitchen Scarborough has prepared and delivered meals to the Rainbow Centre, the Salvation Army, key workers, the ICU at Scarborough Hospital, the Ambulance Service, the Ellis Centre, Cross Lane Hospital, Eastfield Community Hub and Overdale School, as well as to individuals referred by COVID-19 support teams.

The Community Kitchen Team is: Martyn Hyde and Stephen Dinardo (Eat Me Café), Simon and Julie Boddy (Boddy’s of Bar Street and North Street), Andy Walker (Espresso Yourself and The Cow Shed), Philip Akrill (The Green Room Brasserie); Reese Wild (Koda Coffee), Jim Grieve (Scarborough Digital), Georgie Samuels, Racheal Drew, Claire Robinson and Janet Deacon, with support from Relish Café, Love Brew Café and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. 

Community Kitchen Scarborough has deliver pre-cooked meals for reheating, and boxes of ingredients to enable meals to be cooked from scratch, to those in need in and around the town.

Martyn added:

“We’ve also had amazing support from local supermarket Aldi."
