Council Tax Deferment Ends Across Scarborough Borough

Council Tax Deferment Ends Across Scarborough Borough

Published by Karen Liu at 5:58am 5th June 2020.

The deferment of council tax payments across Scarborough Borough is now over.

The Council is issuing advice on what support is still available for those who need help.

We told you back in March that residents could delay paying the bill for two months  because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Liz Colling, Deputy Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said:

"One of the reasons we deferred was obviously suddenly people didn't have income coming in.

So if you're still struggling with reduced income, contact the council with the possibility of something called 'local support for council tax'.

It's where you can have 90% of your council tax paid, but you have to have a significantly reduced income.

If you are still struggling a little bit, but you still have money coming in, we can talk to you about how we can structure a payment thing that works for you.

So again, you need to contact the council about that.

If you deferred your council tax for April and May and were already on direct debit we will have just moved the payment date so you don't need to do anything.

However if you also cancelled your direct debit with the bank, then it will need setting up again."
