New North Yorkshire COVID-19 Cases 'In Single Figures'

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 7:18am 4th June 2020.

The number of new COVID-19 cases being reported on a daily basis in North Yorkshire is now in single figures.

That is according to Richard Flinton, who is chair of the county's Local Resilience Forum (LRF).

He says that is good news but that the disease has not gone away and some areas, like care homes, are still a concern.

Richard has these figures, which are correct up till Tuesday:

"The number of deaths in are taking place in hospitals is 236 and the number of North Yorkshire care home deaths is 190.

So the issue in care home is still very prevalent and the situation is declining slowly in terms of the number of homes with outbreaks.

But still a situation that's causing councils and the LRF a good degree of concern and need for on-going vigilance."

He said:

"The situation that we're in is one of a slowly improving position.

The number of new infections that we're getting in the county area in any one day are in single figures.

But nevertheless, there will be more incidents out there; these are the ones where people get formally tested.

It does demonstrate that while these figures are low there are still incidents of the virus in and around North Yorkshire, so we all need to make sure that we take the appropriate steps and care around that."
