Scarborough Seafront Traders Look To Re-Open When Safe

Published by Karen Liu at 1:01pm 2nd June 2020.

Businesses in Scarborough are looking to re-open when it is safe to do so.

That is according to the Chairman of the South Bay Traders Association.

John Senior says he is working with North Yorkshire County Council to figure out a plan.

He said:

"Each and every business owner is looking at their own businesses and their own decision making to decide what's right for them.

There are massive issues for us to look at, and I certainly don't think we will be considering opening our internal areas until it's very clear that it's safe to do so.

There are models that are working elsewhere that we can take and look at, otherwise we don't know what's safe and what isn't.

We went through a winter, so like a farmer we missed our harvest, and things are extremely difficult.

Most of the traders around the whole of the coast are genuinely small traders, they don't have massive resources.

They won't manage another winter out of business and it will change everything forever if we can't get open again.

There is a pressure on and we are talking to Highways and North Yorkshire county Council and we are working with them on working ways to get around this."

John has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning:

in other words most sensible business people will already have figured out how to open safely and will be doing so asp but Mr Senior must have his say.
