Wanted Man Runs Into Sea In Scarborough

Scarborough RNLI had to be called to help police after a wanted man ran into the sea.

The inshore lifeboat was launched yesterday (Sunday 31st May) to the incident.

The 35 year-old was arrested, after reportedly been racially abusing a member of the public on the South Bay at around 3.30pm.

Shortly after his arrest, he ran into the sea to evade custody.

The RNLI and Coastguard assisted in retrieving the man from the sea and he was further arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and escape of lawful custody. 

He remains in police custody, while enquiries continue
