Mental Health Advice for Yorkshire Coast Residents

A Scarborough counsellor has been offering advice to people on the Yorkshire coast who might be suffering with their mental health.

It's Mental Health Week - and there've been reports of an increase in the number of those who've been struggling during coronavirus.

It's thought anxiety and isolation could be playing a part.

Dorree Gallie says there are things you can try which might help

She said:

"There's an exercise called 'grounding' and it can help when you feel like you've lost all control of your surroundings. Look around you and find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. I use this a lot with my own clients and have got very good feedback about it, so it's worth having a go with it."

She also says exercise, talking to a good friend and being in nature are among things which can help improve your mental health, as well as keeping a journal of your thoughts, where you can monitor patterns and make any changes you feel you need to.
