Northern Addresses Whitby Train Timetable Concerns

Northern Addresses Whitby Train Timetable Concerns

Published by Karen Liu at 1:04pm 20th May 2020.

A Yorkshire Coast train operator has addressed concerns that Whitby has been left without a train service.

People on social media say Northern have introduced a new timetable since Monday (18th May) and as a result, there are no trains from Whitby other than 6.40am and 7.44pm returning to Middlesbrough.

Those who have expressed their concerns also say there are no school trains.

A spokesperson for Northern said:

“We are doing all we can to provide the best possible rail service for key workers and those who need to make essential journeys during this unprecedented period.

We are currently operating temporary timetables designed for essential travel only and, in line with government advice, are advising everyone else to avoid using public transport where possible.

Our timetables may be subject to periodic amendments as we continue to operate during the coronavirus pandemic and would advise anyone who needs to make a journey by train to check carefully before travelling.”
