Scarborough Council 'Relieved' About No Influx Of Visitors

Scarborough Borough Council says it is relieved there was not an influx of visitors over the weekend.

The authority is echoing the thoughts of a Scarborough business leader yesterday, who was also pleased there were not many people coming to the coast.

Deputy Leader Liz Colling said:

"We clearly need to say thank you to those who stayed away and it must be especially hard for people who live away, but have either grown up here or have family or friends here.

And thanks to those that came too, who by-in-large, behaved really well and we created space so there was lots of social distancing going on so all-in-all, I think it was a success.

I think it because it worked so well, all the plans that everybody put in place, worked so well this weekend to discourage visitors, I think by-in-large we're looking to adopt a similar approach for the bank holiday.

We'll see how it goes with the weather and hope, but because it worked well, it would seem silly not to do the same again really."

Liz has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning about the weekend, the upcoming bank holiday weekend, toilets, car parking and more:
