"Work With Us" Say Team Behind Scarborough £10m Funding Application

Published by Matthew Pells at 6:01am 19th May 2020.

In the next few weeks the team behind Scarborough's bid to get £10m from the Government's Future High Street Fund will be submitting their bid for the cash and they want as many people as possible to get behind the application which they say could bring "Hope and Revival" to the town centre.

There are currently two different opportunities for Scarborough to get hold of millions of pounds of government cash for improvement projects to the town from two different pots of money.

Yesterday we looked at the "Town Deal" scheme which could see £25m secured for projects across a wide area of Scarborough.

Today we are looking at the "Future High Street Fund" bid, which could see an award of £10m to spend specifically on improvements to the town centre.

Sue Anderson Brown is leading the team preparing the funding application. Sue says they have a number of ideas that are being worked on to make improvements to the town centre in a number of areas.

Sue says one of the underlying objectives is to find ways of making Scarborough Town centre a GOTO destination for local people and for visitors.

The team behind the application say they need the support of local people to make the bid a success and that getting ideas and opinions from local people is key to securing the cash.

Sue Anderson Brown is especially keen that Scarborough's younger generations play a key role in shaping the plans

Sue says there is a need to rethink what the town centre looks like and what it is used for.

Sue says the application for the cash is very much a 'people's project' and believes the town needs to unite behind the application to help improve the chances of Scarborough securing the money,

Anyone with ideas about projects they would like to see developed in Scarborough Town Centre can comment on the strategy groups Facebook post
