£555,000 Scheme To Improve Roads And Paths In Bridlington

Published by Karen Liu at 11:12am 15th May 2020.

A £550,000 scheme to improve the road surface and paths along a Bridlington road is due to begin next week.

The work on Cardigan Road is set to start on Monday 18th May and will see improvements carried out along the road between its junctions with Hilderthorpe Road and Shaftesbury Road.

The road will be resurfaced and the existing paving slabs will be replaced with a new Tarmac path between the Hilderthorpe Road and Horsforth Avenue junctions.

Then road patching and re-kerbing works will be carried out on the remaining stretch of road between the Horsforth Avenue and Shaftesbury Road junctions.

The scheme is expected to take three months to complete and will be carried out in three phases:

  • Phase One - between Hilderthorpe Road and East Road, starting on Monday 18 May for four weeks.
  • Phase Two - between East Road and Horsforth Avenue. This is due to start on Monday 15 June for four weeks.
  • Phase Three - between Horsforth Avenue and Shaftesbury Road, which is due to start on Friday 10 July for four weeks.

All work will be carried out on week days between 9am and 5pm.

Temporary road closures will be put in place, but these will be removed outside of working hours.

Diversion routes will be signed, but access for pedestrians, the emergency services, postal service and bin collections will remain unaffected throughout the work.

Contractor PBS Construction (NE) Ltd will be undertaking this work on the behalf of the council.

The contractor will be carrying out the work in line with the Government and Public Health England advice on social distancing, to protect the workforce and local residents.

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We’d like to thank the residents of Cardigan Road in advance for their patience while we carry out this work, and we hope they will see the improvements once the scheme is completed.”
