Outdoor Sports Facilities Re-Open On Yorkshire Coast

Published by Karen Liu at 12:34pm 13th May 2020.

Some outdoor sports facilities on the Yorkshire Coast are back open as new government rules come into effect from today.

It means people can go to playing fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, do watersports and play golf.

Shaun Smith, Club Manager of South Cliff Golf Club in Scarborough, said:

"We were so pleased. Obviously the weather's been fantastic and the members have been itching to get out there but obviously with the restrictions in place, that wasn't possible.

So when we got green light from Boris on Sunday evening, it's been quite manic to get us ready to open but thankfully we're back open for business.

We've had to open up under the guidelines that were put down by England Golf.

So members can only play in twos, we've had to remove any touch points i.e. rakes in bunkers, benches etc. members aren't allowed to touch the flag stick.

Just basically common sense and follow the social distancing guidelines."
