Filey MP Supports New Government Lockdown Rules

Filey MP Supports New Government Lockdown Rules

Published by Karen Liu at 7:06am 12th May 2020. (Updated at 7:10am 12th May 2020)

Filey's MP, Kevin Hollinrake, says he supports the new Government rules on the Coronavirus lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now said we can travel anywhere we want in England from tomorrow, as long as we observe social distancing.

That has brought concerns locally from politicians and business leaders who don't want people coming to the Yorkshire Coast.

Kevin said:

"These are sensible changes for me and I'd like to see it go further.

I'd like to see more businesses open, as long as they can demonstrate they can be socially distant, both in terms of people who work there and in term of the customers.

Lots and lots of businesses I speak to every day in Thirsk, Malton and Filey who are very, very worried about their businesses; and there are lots of people who work for them who are worried about their jobs.

We can't open the economy again if we don't get people travelling.

We need to make sure that these steps don't put the progress we've made in reverse. When you get out of your car, you need to socially distance.

I think saying to people you can only exercise, walk around, or travel to shops close to your home is unhelpful for people like Filey."

Kevin has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke:

I agree with him, we need to get back to some sort of normality or we have no businesses left in the area.

Can anyone understand this man.

Council leaders in North Yorkshire and the East Riding, Robert Goodwill etc etc are all saying please don't visit at the moment everything including toilets are closed.

And then along comes this guy and says please come to Filey, we need you.

100% unbelievable.

I have just seen a comment apparently from Councillor Colling who seems to think that no one should go into Scarborough from further than 5 miles - so councillor colling can i have my taxpayers money back as i live outside Filey so am local to the area (to be honest i actually go into Scarborough as little as possible except for appointments or to visit the bank because the council have contributed to making it a complete mess)

Makes sense and is being done in other countries. Paying tax doesn’t stop you getting the virus!

We all want shops to open and get back to normal as we can
my sons work in a resturant and a hotel in whitby but what is the point
Of loads of people walking round with nothing open and the virus still at large
We all along yorkshire coast will welcome tourists with open arms but
i really think its to soon but time will tell if the death rates stsy very low
but i disagree with filey MP at this time

Very irresponsible and childish attitude by Kevin Hollinrake. Guessing it’s selfishness overruling concern for people’s lives. Q.. do you own a business that will profit from an influx of visitors to Filey by any chance Kevin? Just stop a moment and think of the very real dangers in terms of the consequences that will be the outcome of such actions! Our hospitals our frontline health workers are already working selflessly in a very dangerous Environment! did you ever think of any of the consequences before you opened your mouth? I bet you didn’t. I know it’s tough during these unprecedented times and everyone is affected in some way but guidelines are to be followed SENSIBLY and l don’t believe you are understanding that. If l am wrong then please enlighten us all (Previously aimed wrongly at Yorkshire boy, sorry for that)
