HM Coastguard has said it had the highest number of call-outs since the lockdown began on Friday, with 97 incidents - a 54% increase compared with April's daily average.

With temperatures soaring on Friday and Saturday there were concerns that people would ignore the lockdown rules and try to visit coastal resorts.

Humber Coastguard report that they were called out on Saturday afternoon to someone stuck halfway down the cliff close to Flamborough Lighthouse.

Bridlington and Filey Coastguard rescue teams along with Flamborough RNLI inshore lifeboat were sent in response. The coastguard rescue teams carried out a rescue using their specialist techniques.

Jordan Grebby, Senior Maritime Operations Officer for Humber Coastguard said

"We will always respond when someone’s in trouble but we’d like to remind people they really need to think carefully about what they do this weekend. The Government guidelines still stand to stay home, save lives and protect the NHS. Every call out puts our frontline responders at greater risk of Covid19 and puts avoidable pressure on the NHS. StayHomeSaveLives."

Meanwhile Police in Whitby issued 6 fines on Saturday to six adults who did not have a reasonable excuse to travel to Whitby from their home towns.
