Business Survey On How COVID-19 Affects Scarborough Borough

Business Survey On How COVID-19 Affects Scarborough Borough

Published by Karen Liu at 10:12am 7th May 2020. (Updated at 1:55pm 7th May 2020)

Scarborough Borough Council has launched a comprehensive survey to measure the impact of coronavirus on local businesses.

The council has paid out more than £50 million in government coronavirus grants to businesses so far and has been working hard to ensure businesses are directed to the most appropriate information and organisations that can help them.

It is now keen to gather intelligence on what additional support businesses need and what help they and business support organisations might be able to offer within their communities.

The answers provided by businesses will be used to lobby for more support for businesses at a regional and national level and prepare a recovery plan for the borough’s economy for the short, medium and long term. This will include working with the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership and sector led support organisations.

The feedback will also be used to help the council shape its own recovery and business support policies, as well as understand how help from within the local business community could be harnessed to best effect.

Cllr Liz Colling, Scarborough Borough Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, said:

“We want to continue doing all we can to ensure the borough’s businesses get the right level and type of support they need, now and in the future. We also have a leading role to play in planning for and managing the staged recovery of the local economy.

We are under no illusion that coronavirus has hit our economy hard, but we also know of some excellent examples where businesses have diversified and embraced innovative ideas to trade throughout the crisis.

We want to ensure that all experiences are captured accurately. By completing our survey, businesses can let us know what matters the most to them and be part of shaping how, together, we can begin to get our borough back on its feet.”

To  complete the survey visit: and residents have up to and including Saturday 16th May.
