Scarborough and Whitby MP Speaks on Coronavirus

Published by Jon Burke at 6:31am 7th May 2020.

The MP for Scarborough and Whitby has been speaking about coronavirus - ahead of a government announcement.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister will tell us about expected measures to ease lockdown.

Boris Johnson says he wants some of them to start on Monday.

Robert Goodwill admits things won't go straight back to how they were and a vaccine is needed for the disease, before that can happen.

He also says science will guide decisions, rather than what people think and he's not in a position to give an opinion on what should or shouldn't happen.

Robert said:

"This isn't about people's opinions, it's about the science. I get a lot of people emailing me, with their opinion of what should happen, but they don't have the science to back it up.

So this is not the time for politicians to be expressing theior opinions about what we should do, this is a time for us to listen to the best scientific advice in the world and we've got some of the leading scientists in these fields in the UK."

Robert's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..

you mean the advice that Prof Ferguson gave you about staying in but that did not count for his 'friend' visiting him! Sorry if the voters are disturbing your life with letting you know their opinions. Funny i thought that an MP was there to listen to peoples opinions and see how their constituents were feeling about a subject. Of course silly old me, you are there just for the money and power.
