Concerns Over Usage Of Scarborough Borough Holiday Accommodation

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 7th May 2020.

Scarborough Borough Council says there are some legitimate reasons for people to use holiday accommodation.

It is after concerns from residents thinking some places are back open, due to the number of people turning up to use them.

Liz Colling, Deputy Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said:

"I don't think they're formally re-opening to be fair, but there have been a number of toings and froings and cars, looking like people are moving in.

If you see something like that and it concerns you, and this one was over the weekend, then ring police on 101, but if it's during the week, you can contact Safer Scarborough Hub.

But can I remind everyone there are legitimate reasons for occupancy. Key workers, and I'm really grateful to those holiday accommodations who are putting up our nurses and doctors.

We've had people take in the homeless, which is amazing.

Legitimately, if you've got a holiday home and you've been here since the 26th of March, and you've taken in my opinion, a wise decision to see the lock down out, then that's absolutely fine too.

But it's the toing and froing and the travelling that we really want to stop."
